Gertrude is very hard on me, I must confess. That being rather annoying at times and knowing her vanity manifested by how much importance she gives to her hair and toe curling, the first for her looks and the second for her brain cells, I took the liberty of telling her that I find it not fair at all. Why should my earnest passion for air baths au naturel be bothering her? No one can see me apart from you, Bernard.

Three well-known works by three famous novelists or playwrights, all of them are representing the same literary period. Can you find the titles of the works in the text and state the writers´ names? What is the period called?

Whoever answers first, gets a small gift ?

The period is called Victorian literature or Victorian era (1830-1900)

Excellent! You´ve even added the dates determining the period. It is hard to say when exactly it began and when it gave way to Modernism. Some take the period of the reign of Queen Victoria to determine it, some say that Romanticism which preceded the Victorian era had ended some years before Victoria was enthroned. Has it gone with John Keats?
